Chittagong Banks on Mendis, Haris, and Najibullah for Success

Entertainment in cricket T20 often takes the center stage, and the anticipation for the upcoming BPL-E, the domestic T20 tournament in Bangladesh, is palpable among cricketers, spectators, and supporters. With the T20 World Cup held in the same year, expectations are running high for this franchise tournament set to kick off on January 19. Today, let's take a closer look at Chittagong Challengers as they gear up for the tenth season of BPL.

Chittagong Challengers, once a top-performing team in the initial two years after adopting the name, faced a setback in the last BPL, finishing at number 7. Winning only three out of twelve matches in the league stage highlighted their struggles. In a bid to overcome the challenges of the previous season, Challengers have revamped their team, starting from the management. The team retained last season's captain, Shubhagat Home, along with experienced all-rounder Ziaur Rahman and left-arm spinner Nihaduzzaman. Notably, there's a change in coaching staff, with Tushar Imran taking the helm as the head coach for the upcoming season. Chittagong Challengers have historically relied heavily on foreign players. The inclusion of explosive batsmen in the top order and finishers has been a hallmark of their strategy. While the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons saw big names like Chris Gayle and Will Jacks contributing to the team's success, the last season witnessed a lack of impactful foreign players, leading to on-field struggles. To address this, Chittagong has brought in Pakistani batsman Mohammad Haris for the top order, known for his impressive T20 strike rate of 146.61. Additionally, Sri Lankan stars Kushal Mendis and Aviska Fernando, along with English batsman Steve Eskinazi, are expected to play crucial roles. The hard-hitting Afghan Najibullah Zadran and Irish all-rounder Curtis Campher will be tasked with the finisher's role. Abdullah Shafiq, a promising Pakistani top-order batsman, will add strength to Chittagong's batting lineup. Local talents Tanjid Hasan and Shahadat Hossain, both young batsmen, will be closely watched to see how they perform in the upcoming season. With this mix of international and local talent, Chittagong Challengers are gearing up for a comeback in the BPL arena.
