Is Your Mobile Phone Valid?

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a notification stating that illegal mobile handsets in the country will soon be disconnected from the network. This decision follows instructions from the Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak.

According to the notification, the BTRC aims to register each mobile phone by linking it to a national identity and a registered SIM card. This process will ensure the receipt and provision of various government services, as well as the collection of government revenue, by halting the use of illegally manufactured or imported mobile phones. Additionally, it aims to prevent theft and the use of used mobile phones. The BTRC has initiated the full implementation of NEIR (National Equipment Identity Register) to combat illegal usage.

The notification emphasizes that illegal mobile phones will be disconnected from the network soon. In light of this, the public is kindly requested to verify the validity of their mobile handsets before purchasing them.

To verify the validity of a mobile handset, individuals can follow these steps:

- Before purchasing the mobile handset, verify its validity by typing KYD <space> 15 digit IMEI number (Example: KYD 123456789012345) to 16002 from the message option.
